Full biography:

Diego and Carolina have reached a prominent place in the world of Tango and are in part responsible for the renaissance of Tango of the last 10 years.

At the age of 20 and after years of dancing professionally in Buenos Aires, they joined the original cast of the show FOREVER TANGO, becoming the youngest tango dancers in the history of American Musical Theater on Broadway. They also tour with the show in United States, Europe and Canada for over 4 years. (Carolina and Diego are also performing on the first version of Forever Tango home video). The show triumphed on Broadway in June 1997 and maintained this competitive position for fourteen months.

The couple was nominated for a Tony award for ”Best Choreography”and the artistic image of Diego Di Falco was used in all the show’s promotional materials, including the major billboards in Times Square. They have since performed in more than thirty cities in the United States, Canada, Europe, Israel, and Japan. Diego began to dance at the age of four. Tango Masters, ANTONIO TODARO, PUPI CASTELLO, MIGUEL BALMACEDA, PEPITO AVELLANEDA and JUAN CARLOS COPES, who nurtured his natural gifts from a very early age, guided him.

With his unique creativity, sensitivity, and tremendous dedication, he has achieved world renown as a master dancer and instructor of the tango. Carolina’s artistry has also reached great heights. As a young girl, she receiver a scholarship from Juan Carlos Copes to perform with other young artists and with ROBERT DUVAL in the documentary TANGO! Produced by National Geographic. In 1991 she was invited to join the NATIONAL FOLKLORIC BALLET OF ARGENTINA. The couple has participated as principal dancers and choreographers in the show TANGO MAGIC for PBS.

They also perform a smaller version of this concert type show, at Carnegie Hall in 2000 and 2001, and at Umbria Jazz Festival in Orvieto, Italy. Pablo Ziegler and the quintet for New Tango, Joe Lovano, Paquito de Rivera, Richard Galiano, Guidon Kremer, Gary Burton, wore some of the guest artist they share the stage with in this opportunity. In the US and Canada it would be easier to name the cities and theatres in which they haven’t performed, this includes the Hollywood Ball, the Marquis of Broadway, Carnegie Hall, and the Washington Opera House as guest artist.

They reside in the United States and continue to promote Argentine Tango every day and to earn international acclaim for their elegant, charismatic and technically demanding performances, as well as their wide-ranging program of tango instruction. They have sold more than 7000 instructional videos of their first series of 7, between 2000 and 2004 and produce their own series One Step Further in 2000. They are also two tango books in which their names and pictures are included.

In this workshop we will explore the leader and follower roles and how we relate through the language of tango. Through a deeper understanding of tango structure, we will see how leaders can dance confidently and expressively while allowing the follower room for her own expression, and how followers can go beyond merely following and venture into truly dancing. The ultimate goal is to develop a vibrant conversation through movement.

In this workshop we will explore improvisation in tango from the perspective of barridas, finding new and unusual ways of incorporating them.

Dynamics can be thought of the as flavor of our moves --- the sometimes subtle, sometimes breathtaking changes of speed that convey our personal interpretation of the music. Without dynamics, even the most complicated combination falls flat; with dynamics, even the simplest movements look and feel exciting and three-dimensional. Dynamics are one of the aspects of tango that take a lifetime to develop. In this workshop, we will push the boundaries on what we can do with dynamics. Each couple of instructors will share their secrets and techniques for dancing with fluidity, pausing, speeding up with control and precision, and much more.

SHOW SYNOPSIS

We will take you on a trip through time, from 1940 to 2199... on a trip through space, from New York Buenos Aires and beyond... on a trip through feelings, from funny to bizarre to dramatic to adventurous... and more! The Tango Zone will transport you to fantasy world through its unique combination of tango, theater, comedy and video.

Act 1 "Man Vs Time"

If you could turn back time, would you? "Man Vs Time" is composed of a series of vignettes going from heart warming to heart breaking, centered around the universal theme of the passage of time. A giant clock overlooks their challenges and joys as characters both young and old are faced with the full range of human emotion: love, regret, jealousy, nostalgia, anger, guilt, happiness and despair.

Act 2 "Dreamonia"

When Alberto loses his customary fight with Carmela for the TV remote control, he slips off into a long tango-flavored dream. What follows is a series of skits portraying TV shows and movies through the unlikely combination of tango and slapstick comedy. Alternating between live performance and film commercials of some very special fictitious tango related products, "Dreamonia" blurs the line between dream and reality.

The Tango Zone: A one-of-a-kind experience, taking a new look at an old art form.

A quiet vibration calls from the void stimulating a hidden, instinctive, almost forgotten part of you. Is it a compulsion to transform nothingness into beauty with the deft hands of your imagination? Is it an imperative need to share with others the inconceivable, mesmerizing, glorious experience of being alive?

You take the step into the void.

Will you experience bewilderment, as your mind stumbles into a virgin and absurd territory where the romantic and sensuous Argentine tango merges with laughter and tears, slapstick comedy and poignant drama? Nick Jones approaches dancing with great abandon and seriousness. Mixing formal Argentine Tango styles to create creative, musical dance that pushes the limits of the genera. As an enthusiastic teacher, choreographer, performer, dj and musician he is invited to tango festivals and workshops around the world. He has studied tango since 1998 and to this day continues to take classes with whomever catches his eye.

Diana Cruz is a dancer who has dedicated her life to understanding body movement and performing. She pulls together all of her multi-diciplinary techniques (including: Ballet, Contemporary, Modern and Latin American folk dances, Pilates, Yoga, singing and many tango styles) into one cohesive dance. She uses these techniques as a base to create powerful, musical unique performances.

Influenced by her parents, a Bandoneon Master from Uruguay and a Tango singer from Venezuela, from an early age Carolina pursued a desire to perform. Her comprehensive dance background includes ballet, salsa, flamenco and capoeira, and she now specializes in Argentine Tango. She has worked with some of the most recognized names in the tango world: Jorge Torres, Fabian Peralta,Cesar Coelho and Hugo Patyn. Having been fortunate enough to work with some of the best, it comes as no surprise that Carolina’s career is filled with a long list of dance credits that includes, Tango & Tango at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Tango Fantastico at the Bellearyre Music Festival, on Broadway at Town Hall in the show “Tangos for la Milonga” with Romulo Larrea and in 2005 she traveled to Europe to perform with the Sudwestfalen Philarmonic at the Symphonic Tango night in Hilchenbach-Lutzel, Germany. In addition, she was also a featured dancer, singer and actress in the Two River Theatre Company production of Blood Wedding and performed in the Buenos Aires month celebration at the World Financial Center. She was also invited to perform at The 10th Annual Orlando International Fringe Festival in Florida, "Tango Summit" with the Panamerican Symphony Orchestra, and "100 años de tango, de Villoldo a Piazzolla" at the prestigious Solis Theatre in Montevideo, Uruguay. She performs regularly in New York City with Leonardo Suarez Paz's "Cuartetango" and at the Thalia Spanish Theatre in Queens. Carolina is also a much sought after performer in television and film, having appeared on such shows as Fox 5 “Good Day New York” with Penny Crone, "Today in NY" on NBC. In 2006 she was a first prize winner on the popular program Sábado Gigante on Univision. However, the height of her professional career was marked by her role as a primary dancer in the feature film Random Hearts directed by Sidney Pollack and starring Harrison Ford. Carolina talents are not just limited to teaching, but she is a much respected and sought after instructor as well. Over the years, she has been invited to perform and teach at several Dance Festivals including; The Colorado Dance Festival, The D.C. Tango Festival, The Boston Tango Festival, and the "Tango Norte” 2007 Stockholm Tango Festival. Most recently, Carolina was invited to teach at Nashville Tango and performed with the Nashville Chamber Orchestra in Tennessee, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and performed with “Tango Five” at the Einhalden Festival in Germany. This, Carolina performed with the Westfield Symphony Orchestra and Phoenix Symphony Orchestra and was a part of the Evolution Tango Show in Dallas, Texas

Award-winning Argentine Tango dancers Diego Blanco and Ana Padron are one of the top performing young couples in the world today. Their tango style is energetic, rhythmical, and innovative, and through their fluid moves they fuse nuevo tango with the close embrace look of traditional tango. They co- founded their dance company, Tango for All, to bring this electrifying tango to audiences in America and throughout the world.

The name “Tango for All” was inspired by Diego and Ana’s work with the program You Move Me Tango developed by the Shimmy Club, an organization that preserves and promotes music, art and dance traditions from around the world with the goal of strengthening community interactions. Ana explains that the Shimmy Club’s You Move Me Tango program, which is open to the visually impaired youth, “empowers them with improved health and fitness, feelings of self-worth, and increased self-confidence to engage socially with a broadening circle of peers with and without disabilities.” Ana says, “the reason we chose Tango For All was that we wanted tango to be open to everyone across cultures and nationalities.”

For the sake of their strong love of communication through movement, Diego and Ana cross yet another set of boundaries with their company’s first co-production with Rapture Tango, The Tango Zone: a mix of tango, theatre and video. The Tango Zone presents tango as a language, expanding traditional tango themes to encompass funny, exciting, dramatic and even mundane aspects of existence, both real and imaginary. The show represents a confluence of visions, cultures and media, brought together in a celebration of the multitude of experiences and relationships that make up the fabric of living.

Diego and Ana command a wide range of dance disciplines from which they tap inspiration for their movement. In addition to Argentine Tango, these include Classical Ballet, Jazz, African, and Jose Limon, Martha Graham, and Jennifer Muller techniques. They have honed these techniques and skills since their paths first crossed at the New World School of the Arts in Miami, Florida, culminating in Bachelor in Fine Arts degrees from the University of Florida, from which they both graduated with Honors.

Diego and Ana have radiated their love of tango and brought audiences to their feet in applause over many years in many nations: they have toured throughout the United States, the Caribbean, South America, Europe and Asia. They have worked with fellow tango stars such as the dancers Diego Di Falco and Carolina Zokalski, and the Grammy winner musician Raul Jaurena. They have also brought tango to numerous off-Broadway shows and danced and choreographed for an independent film. Outside of the tango realm they have choreographed and danced for legendary modern dance companies that include Jennifer Muller and Martha Graham.

One long-held goal of the couple is to have their own studio where they can teach tango, ballet, yoga and modern dance. Meanwhile they teach tango workshops and private lessons that involve a holistic understanding of movement and an increased awareness of the body as the bases for musicality and creativity.

Daniela and Luis met during her first trip to Buenos Aires. What was supposed to be Luis's last tanda for the night turned into two hours of dancing together. The magical connection they experienced that night led them to share their tango paths. Daniela left her career as an MIT engineering professor to join Luis as his tango partner. Luis left Buenos Aires to join her in New York City, where they currently reside.

Daniela and Luis' performances have been described as sensational, passionate, musical, and technically impeccable. Their dance and instruction are based on deep knowledge of the different styles of tango: milonguero, salon, nuevo and stage, which they blend with ease and fluidity to create very personal interpretations. Expressive and dedicated performers, they bring the excitement level of any crowd to new heights, combining mastery of their art with a sincere humanity that often moves the public to tears or makes them burst into laughter.

Equally passionate about teaching and performing, they have quickly gained renown for their deep grasp on body mechanics as well as analytical, logical and detail-oriented teaching style. On tour for the better part of each year, since the beginning of their partnership in 2006 they have taught and performed throughout the U.S., in Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland and Egypt, as well as in their native countries of Brazil and Argentina, including several major festivals both in North America and in Europe. In 2010 they were also hired by U.S. champions and Olympic silver medalists Meryl Davis and Charlie White to help coach their Argentine tango routine for the 2010/2011 ice dance championships. When not on tour, they offer their "Tango Clinic" and several intensive weekend seminars in New York City. They are co-founders of "The Tango Zone Dance Company", which produces shows combining tango, theater, video and comedy, realizing their long-term vision of telling stories through tango.

Born in Mar del Plata, Argentina, Luis started dancing tango in 1994 and became a professional dancer in 1997. He taught and performed for several years in Buenos Aires, including performances with leading tango bands Bajofondo and Tanguetto, before tango took him to Brazil, Europe and North America. Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Daniela quit her academic career as an MIT engineering professor to fully dedicate herself to professional tango dancing. She started dancing tango in 1999 and brings lifelong training in classical piano to the partnership.

It is with great joy that we introduce “The Tango Zone Dance Company," in its opening event “The Tango Zone: Tango as you’ve never seen it before!”

Born out of a strong desire for expression and communication, the company represents a confluence of visions, cultures and media, brought together in celebration of the multitude of experiences and relationships that make out the fabric of our lives. Our mission is twofold: having shared experience as our highest value, the company aims to serve as a medium through which each of its members can express, share and realize their artistic vision. At the same time, viewing tango as a language and opportunity for communication, the company aims to expand on traditional tango show themes to encompass the funny, exciting, dramatic and even mundane aspects of existence, both real and imaginary.
